Just Misconceptions

(Some will consider this post a "harass topic", especially for my first post. All I have to say is that this is a topic everyone should be educated about.)

When you think of a pit bull, what comes to your mind? Some might say a mean looking dog, with a locking jaw, and a thirst for blood. Others might say the sweetest dogs they have ever met. Why most of what I just said is an opinion, some is not factual. (Opinions aren't factual, but somethings said in sentence two are incorrect.)

There are many misconceptions about pit bulls, one including that they are dangerous, blood thirsty, dogs. This is interiorly not true! Just like any other dog from a different breed, they are just dogs. Sadly, because of their history of being used in pit fights many think that fighting is just in their nature. Those dogs used in pit fights are being forced to fight, and die. If they don't fight they suffer many extremely harass punishments. A few are... not being feed or given water for weeks, burned, hit, or killed. From all this trauma many of the dogs involved become food aggressive, or dog aggressive. (If your dog has any aggressive behavior please keep them away from other dogs and seek training!) Thats why people think pit bulls are dangerous dogs, but if your pittie is like mine which as never been in a fight then they won't even hurt a fly. (Thats not all true because mine eats flies, but she is super friendly.) For pit bulls being so called "dangerous" they have been voted the third favorite dog in 28 states.

An other misconception is that pitties have a locking jaw, or when they bite down they can't let go. THIS IS INCORRECT!!!! There isn't any dog breed or mutt that has a locking jaw. When a pit bull bites down they CAN let go. The locking jaw myth was probably just made up by a stupid scientist, or a jerk who wanted to ruin the reputation of pit bulls.

Last but not least, people think pit bulls are one breed. Pit bulls are actually what three different breeds are referred too. The Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier are all considered pit bulls. Even other breeds, like German Shepherds are sometimes considered pit bulls. Weird, right? All of these breeds are considered pit bulls mainly because they all share certain unique features. Some have floppy ears, and others only get to 16 inches tall. Even though, they all are grouped together each dog has their own personality, which makes each one of them special.

No dog, or dog breed should be considered evil because of stupid myths. We all need to educate our selves on breeds before we start believing lies. Pit bulls are just like every other breed, unique, but that doesn't mean they are "dangerous". Always remember the saying "Don't bully my breed!" Share this message with your friends and family so the misconceptions will vanish!
